After the success of the first Berne Heritage Days 2002, plans are progressing well for the next celebration. Check out the new Berne, NY web site for town information and the most recent updates for the Berne Heritage Days celebration. Berne Heritage Days Exhibit Center Berne Historical Project
The Berne Historical Project at www.Bernehistory.org is sponsoring an Exhibit Center and Lecture Program at the Berne Knox Westerlo Elementary School Cafeteria.
The Exhibit Center hours are Friday from 12 - 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm.
Exhibits will include:
· Berne Families Genealogy – Ralph and Harold Miller will do free ancestor and descendant reports on Hilltown families from the Berne Families Genealogy
· Civil War Soldiers – Allan Dietz, a descendant of George W. Warner, will display Warner’s 1863 Civil War diary. Letters and memorabilia on other local soldiers will also be exhibited.
· Supreme Court Justice Joseph P. Bradley – Doug Cruger, a descendant of Justice Bradley, will present an exhibit of his life and significance. Justice Bradley was born on a farm on Cole Hill in 1813.
· Resort Memorabilia – The Warner Lake Improvement Association will display their outstanding collection of early postcards from Warners Lake and elsewhere, along with other memorabilia from area lake resorts.
· Heritage Homes Inventory – The Berne Historical Project has begun an inventory of 19th-Century buildings in the Town of Berne. Photos and history of these buildings will be on display.
· History of Berne’s Churches – Hearts of the Father (Our Farm) will present an exhibit on the history of Berne’s churches and the importance religion played in the lives of Berne families.
· Family History and Genealogy – Cheryl Parson, a descendant of several Berne families, will display an exhibit on these families.
· Early Area Maps – Harold Miller will display early Berne and area maps.
· Fox Creek Restoration Project – Roy Lamberton, Trout Unlimited, will have a display on their proposal for the restoration of Fox Creek.
· Blacksmithing in Berne – Marty Milner, our local blacksmith, will present an exhibit on the history of blacksmithing in Berne.
· Berne School Timeline – Kathy Stempel will have an exhibit of important dates and events in the history of the Berne School District.
· Dutch style barns – Greg Huber, New World Dutch Barns, will have an exhibit and sales table of John Fritchen’s book, “The New World Dutch Barn.” Lectures will include:
· Early Berne History – 12:30 - Harold Miller will discuss early Berne history.
· Family History and Genealogy – 1 pm - Cheryl Parsons will tell about how her experiences in researching her ancestors and give tips for beginners
· Anti-Rent War – 1:30 Bill Massouth will talk about the history of the Anti-Rent War and the importance Berne played in the struggle.
Lectures will include:
· Early Berne History – 12:30 - Harold Miller will discuss early Berne history.
· Family History and Genealogy – 1 pm - Cheryl Parsons will tell about how her experiences in researching her ancestors and give tips for beginners
· Anti-Rent War – 1:30 Bill Massouth will
talk about the history of the Anti-Rent War and the importance Berne
played in the struggle.

Award for 'site of the day' Family Tree Magazine, April 11, 2002.
