| Website Redesign is complete | |
| Joan has been working hard and has finished a complete redesign of the Berne History website. Our focus has changed slightly in the past year from emphasizing the Berne Historical Project to focusing more on the Town of Berne, it's residents, genealogy, and history.
We have also added a chat room where visitors can meet each Sunday evening at 7:00 PM EST to share ideas or questions.
Please check out our new look at www.bernehistory.org
Some of you may have been following George Warners life as he recorded it during the Civil War in 1863. "No Sabbath on the Battlefield" was previously published by Norma June Luce and is being reproduced here. Well, Ralph Miller and his wife Jan are transcribing a second (earlier) diary that was also written by George during 1862. The owner, Allan Dietz has granted permission for us to publish the transcript here. We posted the first three months and I recommend everyone take a look at this fascinating record of daily life in 1862.
Website Updates
The test version of the new Berne History website is currently available at http://bht.itsallwright.com for anyone wishing to play with a developing site and provide feedback. This site now offers surname search capabilities against our cemetery, census and baptism records. The location of this site is temporary and will only be used only until I move the finished site to our current address on the Internet. Be aware though, this site is under development and is not yet complete so you may experience broken links and other unusual behavior.
If you have any ideas or thoughts about ways to improve the site please send them to the webmasters.
There is a new mailing list for Berne at RootsWeb.com
You can subscribe to the list in mail mode by sending a message to: NY-ALBANY-BERNE-L request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If you prefer digest mode, send the command instead to: NY-ALBANY-BERNE-Drequest@rootsweb.com. | From
