N.Y. Volunteer Artillery was organized as the Albany County Regiment in
the 13th Senatorial District, under the auspices of the following committee,

| Ira Palmer
- The Civil War Military papers of Ira Palmer, son of Seymour Palmer and
Freelove Wilcox. The family lived in Berne and Westerlo before he and his
wife Charlotte Weisgerber (daughter of Jacob Weisgarver and Maria Ecker)
moved to Binghamton about the time of the Civil War. (submitted by Betty

| Seth
Flint - Seth Flint was born in South
Berne in 1846. At 16 he sneaked out of his home and walked barefoot to Albany
to enlist in Company H of the Fifth Cavalry. Flint sounded the bugle when
Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse
on April 9, 1865. |
