Patterson and amt due for the recumption of whatever lands of his may have been sold for arrears of taxes. Also send Bill of Taxes due on R.S. Hollins lands in Allegany County from the year 1834.

2. Letter to: J.M. Patterson Esquire Dec. 17, 1835 Dear Sir, …...From my Fathers experience and that at Mr. Wadworth’s Father, we are convinced a Tract of this description, seculted and surrounded by a wilderness cannot be settled and paid for in less than fifteen years. We are disposed to make you as liberal an offer as the value of the land will permit. – but cannot make you one which will renumerate you for your heavy expenditures and long lot of interest. We will give you $10,000 for the tract 10 prbt. down and the balance in six eight or ten years at legal interest secured by a mortage on the tract and by our joint Bond. Very Respty, W. S. Church
3. Letter to: R.L. Hollins New York,Dec.17,1835 Dear Sir, I have been detained in this city much longer than I expected to be when I last had the pleasure of seeing you – I have been however taking measures to ascertain precisely what amount of taxes and [?] are due on your wild lands in this State and hope to be able in the course of too or three days to advise you of all particulars in relation to them. -------- As the Post Office was destroyed in awful couplagration of last night I shall forward this to you by a Friend of mine who goes tomorrow morning to Philadelphia. A sad gloom is cast over our whole community by this destroying event and the utmost anxiety exists among all the losses of our merchants. The losses of the Ins Comp are computed at least 15 millions of dollars and the number of houses consumed exceeds six thousand. My Respects to your Fraternity Brother
Very Respectfully, R.L. Hollins Esquire Baltimore Your W.S. Church
4. Letter J. Brown Francis from New York Dec. 20, 1835 Dear Sir, Since you left the City, I have examined my Papers and found that several of your lots in the Genesee Country have been sold on contract. Should you determine to appoint me your Agent, you will confer a great favor by forwarding the Power of Attorney to Me before I leave the City directed….I think it would be better if convenient to you, to enclose the money for the payt of taxes so that my Agency may commence without indebtedness on either side. I shall pay the taxes at Albany which I intend doing for the others on my house [author’s note: this may be the house he built in Belmont].
5. Letter to J.B. Francis at Providence – Dec. 25, 1835. I was interrupted in this epistle by a call to visit a relation of mine Dr. David Hasack, who is on his death bed and have not since been at my rooms until this day owing to this melancholy occurance….
6. Letter to J.B. Church [his brother] was written December 25, 1835 to Angelica by Walter Church [author’s note: apparently he worked on Christmas Day].
My dear John,
Sherman will doubedly be able to give you some information on Tharman Smith and Daubermout have persuaded Louis Paul to make some arrangements relating to this but, whatever he has done is entirely without the authority or knowledge of the DuPonts [author’s note: homeowners in Angelica]. I wish you would keep as quiet as possible and not let either Tharman Smith or the Magees Know that you are agitating this business. If you consider it necessary to commence proceedings before my return wish you well and I will incur all responsibility. I shall probably be there in 10 days or a fortnight but possibly may be detained longer. Love & c Your Brother
