| The Hilltowns Genealogy, originally conceived to be a comprehensive genealogy of all Berne families, is being expanded to include all families that lived in the Hilltowns of western Albany County, i.e. Berne, Knox, Westerlo, and Rensselarville. Where it is known, the genealogy lists the ancestors of all Hilltown families. It is intended that when a family or individual left the Hilltowns, the records should show where the individual or family went, and when they died. It does not attempt to follow all ancestors of Hilltown families beyond the first generation leaving the Hill. It should go without saying that the Hilltowns Genealogy is a work in progress. The goal is to have every Hilltown family represented completely and accurately. As we develop more information, it will be added to the Hilltowns Genealogy. All individuals mentioned in church, cemetery and census records will someday be in the Hilltowns Genealogy. Eventually the information from deeds, military, tax, and town records will also be used to assure the completeness of the Hilltowns Genealogy. The Hilltowns Genealogy was started in 1997 by Ralph Miller, Historian for the town of Berne as the Berne Families Genealogy. Since 2001 he has been assisted by his brother Harold, who concentrated first on the early Berne settlers and their ancestors. It should be noted that all of the ancestors of Ralph and Harold were from Berne; or their descendants lived there. In recent years Harold has made a concerted effort to add all the families from Knox, and more recently from Westerlo. At the end of 2008 Harold started a new web site for researchers with ancestors from the Albany Hilltowns. Please use it to add information on your Hilltowns ancestors. To add new individuals or correct information that is in the Hilltowns Genealogy, please contact Harold at halned1@gmail.com. The Genealogy is updated on a continual basis; the results will be posted on-line on a monthly basis. | |
